OUR PROGRAM
The Week of May 17th online (through a dedicated channel on ChicagoTribune.com) and via our social channels, culminating in a print special section on Sunday, May 24.
The Chicago Tribune is hosting ‘Senior Week 2020’ and will designate a different theme each day during the week. Our editorial staff will write stories to coincide with the topics each day, but we also will use our platforms to highlight Chicago-area seniors and share the ways they are celebrating Senior Week in real time.
Topics may include:
- Senior Portraits – The Chicago Tribune’s award-winning photographers will take “senior portraits” and produce video diaries of seniors from a diverse cross-section of the Chicago market.
- Prom – Many students have their dresses already, or maybe they don’t but would still be able to pull together a beautiful look. We encourage seniors to get dressed up, do their hair, share videos, share photos—even issue a TikTok challenge.
- Graduation Speech Contest- The Class of 2020 is like no other class that’s gone before. We will challenge students to share their advice and wishes for their fellow students and publish the top three speeches, as well as excerpts from others, on chicagotribune.com and in the Chicago Class of 2020 Yearbook.Opportunity for Presenting Sponsor to give a scholarship to the winning speech(es)
- Graduating Class Playlist-We ask a group of seniors to suggest a song that defines this time for them and make a playlist.
- Virtual Graduation Party in Your Home – Tips for hosting, with ideas for decorating and food to order, places where you can order announcements for the graduate.
- Senior Superlatives –The Chicago Tribune will take nominations from local seniors for all the fun senior superlatives we know and love (i.e. Best athlete, Most likely to run for president, Best dressed, Best friends, Most cheerful, etc.).
Readers will be able to upload photos and nominations directly to chicagotribune.com. - Celebrity Congrats-Chicago area alumni (athletes, actors, politicians, authors, etc.) will share their messages of hope and advice to graduates.
